The community and business relations intern plays an integral role in the Chamber’s business development and member communication. The intern will work directly with the Chamber in their efforts to promote events for the community in and around the Les Cheneaux area. There are many opportunities for an intern to learn and develop a wide range of skills through this position, and duties are not limited to, or constrained by, the activities listed below.
The position will help brand and advance the Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce and Les Cheneaux area activities and events using the following strategies:
Community, Membership and Business Development
•Intern may coordinate and/or assist with various marketing and member programs
•He/she will conduct a variety of initiatives that will seek to strengthen our membership base
•Intern may attend Chamber events and assist with general duties
•Intern may assist in planning Chamber events
•Intern will create “how to” plans or “check lists” for various community events and maintain binders for each event
•Intern will develop marketing pieces to help build the membership
•Intern will help identify and execute initiatives to help grow existing businesses and attract new ones,
primarily through the Chamber’s involvement in the Mackinac Economic Alliance
•Intern will help gather information for, review and edit the Chamber’s business directory by contacting members and confirming their information
•Intern may create a strategy for growing our membership, by developing new materials or revising the old materials to invite new members to join the Chamber
•Intern may work on any assignments deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors of the Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce
Public Relations
•Intern will help incorporate our Les Cheneaux brand into the Chamber’s print, web and social media presence
•Intern will be responsible for maintaining Les Cheneaux’s social media outlets (such as Facebook, Twitter, blog) using information that members and the community find relevant, informative and exciting
•Intern will write press releases for Chamber events and activities, and may occasionally write press releases for other organization’s events
•Intern will maintain community event sites, calendars and other places our events are listed, and identify new sources of marketing and promotion for our community
•Intern will seek opportunities to list Chamber and business events in calendars, appropriate publications and websites
•Intern will review, refresh and improve the Les Cheneaux area’s internet presence by rewriting business descriptions, event descriptions and area information
•Intern will help develop publications, brochures, member materials and promotional literature about the Les Cheneaux area
