Mertaugh Boat Works is the world's first Chris Craft franchise, and helps host the annual Les Cheneaux Antique Wooden Boat Show & Festival of Arts each year. Mertaugh is a full service boatyard, marina & boat brokerage. Duranautic, Avon, Evinrude, Johnson outboards & Service Mercury. The boatyard dates to 1925, when the original owner built a boathouse out of scrap lumber and signed up to be the very first Chris Craft dealer in the world. Brand new wooden Chris Crafts were navigated up Lake Huron with the aid of only a compass, and many of these woodies have remained with their original families in the Les Cheneaux Islands through generations of summer boaters. Today, Mertaugh Boat Works employees have many years' experience in maintaining and restoring wooden boats of all kinds, and the business employs experts in varnishing techniques, as well as antique motor and engine rebuilding. Mertaugh Boat Works offers service and maintenance on fiberglass boats and cruisers, as well as storage for boats of any size; 60-ton capacity travel lift, heated & unheated storage buildings; outdoor spar-up storage for sailboats; shrink wrap service, fuel sales.
