Take advantage of Michigan’s FREE FISHING weekend by participating in our Snowsfest Fishing Contest! No license required for fishing on February 17-18
Thursday, February 15
8 am: Pike and Perch Fishing Contest Begins (sponsored by Islands Wildlife & Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce) through dark on Sunday, Feb. 18. Cash prizes for top three fish in adult and youth divisions, with $100 Grand Prize in adult division for largest pike and perch. $10 adult & $5 kids registration fee. Must register before fishing. Winners will be notified by phone on Monday Feb. 19.
6 pm: BINGO! at the Historic Hessel School House - Doors open at 5 pm. Bingo daubers and beverages sold at the school. Entrance is at 3206 W. Cedar Rd., Hessel or off of M-134, just west of the 3-Mile Rd/M-134 intersection. Proceeds benefit Hessel School House operations and Avery Arts & Nature Learning Center programs.
Friday, February 16
10 am-5:30 pm - Friends of the LCCL Book Sale - Les Cheneaux Community Library, Hodeck St., Cedarville
3 pm–5 pm: Winter Warm-Up at the Great Lakes Boat Building School – open house with hot beverages, with live music and jam session. Everyone is welcome to tour the school, and musicians are encouraged to come and jam with the band!
5 pm: Snow Statue and Snow Buddy Judging – Must be registered by 4 p.m. to be judged. Register by calling 484-3935 or email email@example.com. NO window judging.
5 pm through Friday evening: Snowsfest Pub Shuffle – visit Cattail’s Cove, Hessel Kewadin Casino, Islander Bar & Grill, Les Cheneaux Distillers, Wendi's Runway Bar and Snow’s Bar & Grill to vote on your favorite bar. Ballots are available at each establishment. Must visit all establishments and complete entire ballot for votes to be counted. Themed costumes encouraged!
Saturday, February 17
8-11 am: Pancake and Sausage Breakfast – at Les Cheneaux Community Schools cafeteria. Served by Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club. $6 Adults, $4 Kids (5-12 yrs old), Ages 4 & under are free.
9 am: Cardboard Box Sled Races - ALL AGES! Create your own cartoon-themed sled, or any style of decoration welcome! Race will be at the Les Cheneaux Community Schools sledding hill in Cedarville. Use elementary school parking lot on Hilltop Drive.
10 am Vintage Snowmobile Ride from Hessel to Cedarville followed by display of vintage sleds at Snowsfest in Hessel. Dust off your old sleds and join other vintage collectors for a ride! Meet at E.J. Mertaugh Boat Works in Hessel.
10-3pm: Snowsfest Craft Show (NEW LOCATION THIS YEAR!!! Come check it out!) at the Hessel School House, 3206 W. Cedar Rd,. Hessel
10-3 pm: Les Cheneaux Community Library Book Sale continues at the Library on Hodeck Street, Cedarville.
11 am-1 pm: Ice Hole Closet to the Pin Competition Shooting starts at 11 am on Hessel Bay - Followed by awards. $10 registration with your Snowsfest button for 3 shots at getting your ball closest to the pin. Great prizes awarded!
11 am - 2 pm: Hot Dogs and Hot Drinks Concession in the Snowsfest Warm-up Tent in downtown Hessel.
11 am - 2 pm: Chili Cook Off: Commercial and Individual divisions. Chili entries must be at the Snowsfest tent in Hessel between 10:30 am and 11 am. Free entry for cook-off contestants. Tasters buy tickets to vote for favorite chili! Sponsored by First National Bank, Les Cheneaux Branch.
11:30 am: Ceremonial Snowman Burning & Blessing of Snowsfest Hessel Marina and Park Area with Father peter Fosu, Our Lady of the Snows, Hessel.
11:30 am - 1:30 pm: Poker Run Registration in the Snowsfest Tent, downtown Hessel. Ride, walk or run to the following locations to collect your stamps: Albany Bar, Ang-Gio’s Restaurant, Cattail’s Cove, Cedarville EZ Mart, Islander Bar & Grill, Kewadin Casino, Les Cheneaux Distillers, Raber Bay Bar n’ Restaurant, Wendi's Runway Bar, Snow’s Bar & Grill & Yoopman's Bar, Grill and Grocery
Noon-2 pm: Kids Games at the Snowsfest Tent Sponsored by Carmeuse Lime and Stone
Noon-2 pm: Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club Groomer-Drawn Hay Rides Downtown Hessel near Snowsfest Activity Tent
2 pm: Emergency Ice Rescue Demonstration – by the U.S. Coast Guard, near Snowsfest activity tent, Hessel - weather permitting
5-7 p.m: Poker Run Ends at Islander Bar and Grill, Hessel. Awards to follow.
Sunday, February 18
10 am - 2 pm: Les Cheneaux Farmers & Artisans Market at the Hessel School House, 3206 W. Cedar Rd., Hessel. Local meats, eggs and produce, art and crafts, freshly roasted hot coffee and beans to go and more.
11 am: Frosty 5K (registration 10-10:45 am) Warm up the day with a 5k Run/Walk. Registration at the Islander Bar and Grill; $25 entry fee. Participants will receive a headband with registration and end the Frosty 5K with a hot lunch at the Island Bar and Grill.
2 pm: Winter Wonderland Dog Walk (Weather Permitting) Join us for a fun, informal winter dog walk through downtown Hessel. Goody Bags for your pets, hot beverages & great dog socialzation. Please walk dogs on leashes. Donations to "Friends of the Animals" are welcome!
