Great Lakes Discovery Sail - Hessel, MI

Join us for a unique hands-on experience for 3 hours aboard our 77′ schooner Inland Seas. Students become Great Lakes scientist for the day. This is great for a family and students eager to learn about the ecosystem and sailing! Not only will you learn about the ecosystem, you will also learn how to sail. Become part of the maritime sailing tradition by raising the anchor, hoisting the sails, and steering the schooner. While the schooner is under sail, small groups move through a series of learning stations. Some educational highlights include: • Learning about the Great Lakes ecosystem • Trawling for fish • Collecting plankton • Sampling the lake bottom • Completing water quality tests Tour Times Contact us to ask for specific dates and times Duration 3 hours Meeting Place and Check-In Time • Our meeting location for our Les Cheneaux/Hessel, MI sails is the very end of S Pickford Ave in Hessel. • GPS Address: 198 S Pickford Ave, Hessel, MI 49745 • The GPS address will take you to the crossing of S Pickford, and Lake Street which is where the Marina is, and the Sail meets. • Please arrive 20-30 minutes early before your scheduled departure. • If you are lost or running late, please call the ship phone at (231) 620-9719. What to Wear Please dress according to weather predictions, and for cooler temperatures on the water. We recommend you do not wear flip-flop type shoes.
